Live from the Two Plus Two Studios - The 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event is underway and the guys keep you up to date with all the news and side notes involving this years quest for the title. John Pappas, Executive Director of the Poker Players Alliance is the feature guest this week discussing the continuing battle to keep poker a legal American past time. Mason Malmuth also stops by our make shift studio at the Palms for his yearly address to the Two Plus Two community. Mike and Adam also talk some forum static and of course gives away the password for the July 7th Poker Stars VIP Club Invitational for Pokercast listeners.

Mason Malmuth received his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics in 1973 from Virginia Tech and completed a master’s from the same program in 1975. While working for the United States Census Bureau in 1979, Mason stopped overnight in Las Vegas while driving to his new assignment in California. He was immediately fascinated by the games and gambling immediately became his major interest. After arriving in California he discovered that poker was legal and began playing in some of the public card rooms as well as taking periodic trips to Las Vegas where he would play both poker and blackjack. In 1981 he relocated to Los Angeles for The Northrop Corporation where he was employed as a mathematician, at which time he pursued his interest in poker in the public card rooms in Gardena, Bell Gardens, and Commerce.
His company, Two Plus Two Publishing has sold over 1.5 million books and currently has 35 titles to its credit with more on the way. John Pappas is the executive director of the Poker Player Alliance (PPA), a non-profit interest group formed to promote poker and protect the rights and interests of poker players. Pappas has been involved in Washington Politics since graduating college and has an impressive resume including tenure as a public affairs consultant with Washington PR firm Dittus Communications. He has been involved with numerous congressional political campaigns.
In his role as executive director of the PPA, Pappas is responsible for overall operations management and strategic planning as well as membership initiative and engagement. Learn more about John Pappas
