William E. Baxteris a professional poker player from Augusta Georgia. Baxteris was born in 1940. On the return trip of his 1975 honeymoon, Baxter landed in Las Vegas where he lived with his new bride for the better part of a year as a professional poker player. It was during this era that he met other legends of the game Doyle Brunson, Puggy Pearson and Stu Ungar.
Baxter’s career highlights include 7 WSOP bracelets, 28 WSOP cashes, 1 WPT final table and 8 WPT cashes. Baxter is perhaps most well known for staking Stu Ungar in his victory of the 1997 WSOP and the landmark case of “William E. Baxter vs. the United States” that saw poker income classified as “earned income.”
Baxter’s bracelets are entirely in the lowball games of Razz, 2-7 and California Lowball.
