Bobby Hoff is a professional poker player originally from Victoria, TX, currently living in Long Beach, CA. Hoff attended University of Texas on an athletics scholarship during which time he was also a scratch golfer.
Hoff discovered poker during his off hours in Las Vegas three years after graduation while he was employed as a poker dealer. After reading Thorp’s Beat the Dealer, Hoff turned his focus to blackjack, became proficient at the game, and played as part of a blackjack team for a number of years. He was eventually banned from blackjack tables throughout Vegas. His departure from blackjack rekindled his interest in poker. He was frequently staked by the WSOP champion Sailor Roberts.
In 1979 Hoff finished second in the WSOP Main Event to amateur Hal Fowler in a grueling 10 hour heads-up finale. He now has 11 WSOP cashes and 1 WPT cash. Hendon mob lists his live tournament winnings as exceeding $534,000.
An interview with Bobby “The Wizard” Hoff appears in the final chapter of Harrington on Cash Volume II. Learn more about Bobby Hoff
